Chandigarh: In a bid to ensure strict security measures during the municipal elections scheduled for Tuesday, the Municipality of Chandigarh searched for three metal detectors in the MC building and decided to allow elected municipal councilors to bring only only one visitor each on polling day.
Apart from writing to the SSP (Law and Order) to make the necessary arrangements, the civic body has also asked the Director of Health Services of the Chandigarh administration to send a doctor and an ambulance to the ballot.
The MC will make arrangements in the conference room of the MC building only for authorized visitors to view the voting and election process. Multiple screens will be there for these visitors to attend every moment of the ballot in the meeting room. Senior political party leaders will have preference to enter the building to view the municipal elections.
“A letter has been written to the SSP (law and order) to provide adequate police force in the meeting hall and MC building and also make appropriate arrangements outside the MC building,” sources said.
